Prof. John O. Igoli graduated from the Department of pure and Industrial Chemistry University of Nigeria Nsukka in 1985 and finished as the Best Graduating student. He thereafter obtained a Masters degree in organic chemistry in 1990 and a Ph.D. in the same area specializing in natural products in 2003. He was the Best Graduating doctoral student winning the Vice-Chancellor’s faculty postgraduate prize. Prof Igoli started lecturing with the University of Agriculture Makurdi in 1987. He has risen through the ranks to his present position. He was a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow,Scotland from 2008 to 2014. He has over 15 years experience in natural products research involving chromatographic separation, spectroscopic analysis, structure elucidation and drug discovery from natural resources. He has over 60 scientific publications based on his experience in ethnobotany, bioactivity screening of extracts and compounds, organic synthesis, isolation of natural compounds using chromatographic techniques and structure elucidation of natural and synthetic compounds using spectroscopic techniques. He has been invited by many Universities in Thailand, Malaysia and Nigeria to speak on traditional medicine, drug discovery from natural products and the isolation and structure elucidation of natural compounds. He has organised and participated in several spectroscopic workshops on the interpretation and structural elucidation of organic compounds using 1D and 2D NMR, IR, UV and Mass spectroscopy. He was won research grants and Fellowships from the DAAD, IFS, NHS GGC, RSC, CRUK, IFAH and CADFP. Professor Igoli is an avid reader, a commentator on public affairs and also a writer and poet. He has published two books, Mjawari and other stories and Benzene and other poems. https://www.researchgate.net/profile/John_Igoli
