Professor Folahan Adekola was born in Ibadan, Nigeria on March 2, 1960. He obtained B.Sc., First Class Honours and M.Sc degrees in Chemistry from University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria in 1984 and 1987 respectively. He thereafter bagged his Ph.D degree in Analytical Chemistry with distinction from Pierre & Marie Curie University, Paris, France in 1993. After 1 year of post-doctoral training in Chemical Metallurgy Institute of the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France, he took up appointment as Lecturer I in 1994 in the Department of Chemistry of the University of Ilorin. He rose through the ranks to become Professor of Chemistry in 2011. He is a member of several professional bodies including Chemical Society of Nigeria, American Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry, Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria, Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria and Materials Society of Nigeria. Prof Adekola has successfully supervised 11 PhDs and more than 35 Masters’ theses in the area of Analytical, Environmental and Industrial Chemistry. He has published over 120 research papers in peer-reviewed journals. He has also carried out successfully several commissioned projects for the Federal Government of Nigeria and the corporate bodies. He has served as external supervisor, assessor and examiner to several universities in Nigeria and abroad. He was Head of Department of chemistry, University of Ilorin from 2008 to 2010, Sub-Dean of Postgraduate School of University of Ilorin (2002-2005) and Director of General Studies Division (2012-2015. He is currently the Vice-Chair of the Nigeria Chapter of the International Chemical Sciences of American Chemical Society.
